It’s a good idea to check your water pressure even when you have pressure regulator because it’s hard to tell when it fails. High water pressure is a simple, common problem that can have costly consequences if not address. Lucky, it is easy to test! All that is needed is a simple, inexpensive pressure gauge.
How to check water pressure
Water pressure should be between 30-75 PSI. To check water pressure all that you have to do is remove any outside hose bib and screw the pressure gauge into the fixture. This can also be done on a washing machine bib. Then turn on the water. This will give an accurate reading of the PSI.
Pressure regulators have a maximum adjustment up to 75 PSI. If the gauge reads over 75PSI it is likely that the pressure regulator is broken. If the gauge reads over 75 PSI and you don’t have pressure regulator one should be installed.
